However, this isn’t just about beer, it’s so much more.

It all started in October 2019 at the University of Nottingham with two students, who to simply put it, love beer. This led us to venture into the world of brewing, where we realised that the beer industry hasn’t changed for millennia. Working at a social supermarket, Foodprint, we witnessed disparities in society and the extreme amount of food wasted every day, leaving us wanting to do something about it.
So we founded Bread Brew’d. We wanted to create a beer that’s not only enjoyable, but one that has an incredible social and environmental impact.
We tackle food waste and climate change by up-cycling fresh surplus bread to brew our beer. All of our profits go towards tackling child food poverty through working with school breakfast club initiatives.
While creating our incredible beer, we strive to minimise our impact on the environment.
To do so, we partner with an environmentally-conscious brewery, Magpie.
- Our beers are 100% vegan
- We use locally-sourced hops
- We use 100% renewable energy during our production
- Post-brew, all hops are composted and used to grow more hops
- Wasted malt is sent to local farms to be used as animal feed
- We reuse water from brewing to jet wash our casks after brewing
Now, back to the start of the story. We all love beer, but with the pressing social and environmental issues facing our planet, the industry can’t continue along the same path.
